How to Cope with Anxiety and Stress during Coronavirus Pandemic

The lightning-fast spread of the coronavirus has led most people to experience constant anxiety and fear.

Sitting at home, people are lost in their own fears and sometimes do not know how to distract themselves. How to survive quarantine and maintain at least relative calm?

Information detox

Most of us surf the Internet for a long time, reading all kinds of materials about coronavirus, and they even exacerbate fear. Moreover, in this stream of information, there are quite a lot of myths and unverified data that bring the greatest harm. Therefore, people need to remember that only official sources should read – these are data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention or the WHO. And to read such things is better not all day long, but only once a day, just to navigate the situation. And if you want to share information with other network users, do not post articles from unverified or suspicious sources.

Basic protective measures

To be calmer, you just need to control those things that depend on you. For instance, hand washing or disinfection: WHO expert advice wash hands frequently and thoroughly, do not ride public transport, do not communicate with other people, leave the house only in extreme cases, and so on. Such measures allow you to realize that you are doing everything possible to avoid the coronavirus, and this gives some confidence.

Stay in touch

If you are at home, this does not mean that you are in complete isolation. Communicate with friends and family by phone, and try to choose topics that are not related to coronavirus. Take an interest in how your family spends time, discuss movies, hobbies, share recipes. Man is a social being, and simply cannot without communication.

If you are forced to stay at home, switch to household chores that you have no time to do on weekdays: sort things out in closets, tidy up your furniture. Take time for your favorite hobby: drawing, listening to music, playing musical instruments, knitting, sewing (including creative masks), embroidery, and so on.

Gadgets provide tremendous opportunities: you can read books, watch webinars, watch performances, online tours, engage in art therapy with professionals – this is what you now need.

Pay attention to the children

Draw with them, come up with different games, fairy tales, sculpt castles, make toys. These activities are necessary not only for children but also for you. And you can pull up school subjects that are most difficult for a child.

Think of body and soul

Take time for your spiritual development, especially during the quarantine. Prayers, meditations, yoga help to find peace of mind and diversify your life.

Do not forget about your body: massage, self-massage, gymnastics, water procedures. All this strengthens the nervous system and distracts from all fears.

Balanced diet

It is very important to eat properly and balanced. It is important to remember that the body is much easier to cope with stress and anxiety if it is saturated with essential nutrients, vitamins, and trace elements. The menu must be fresh fruits and vegetables. And also a fish that is rich in iodine and phosphorus.
